WHEEL THROWING

Beginner 1-Day Class
In this try-it-on class, no experience is required for you to spend 1.5 hours creating a piece on the wheel. This class will allow you to dip your toes into wheel throwing just for fun or as a stepping stone on your way to being a potter!

Trimming Workshop
This workshop will teach proper trimming techniques and allow students to practice these methods on pre-thrown pottery. There will not be finished projects for firing at the end of this workshop, it is for practice/experience only.

Sgraffito
"Sgraffito" is a technique in which glaze is applied to the raw clay then carved/scraped away to create an image or design onto the piece. We offer a range of Sgraffito courses from wheels to hand building, so you're sure to find one for your interests and skill level!

Intermediate 2-day class
In this class, the instructor will continue into the various creative directions in wheel throwing. While honing your skill, You will learn proper shaping, trimming, and handle making techniques for mugs, vases, and more!

Teen Clay Creations
This course is designed for students that are 13 years of age and up. This is a 3 week class where students will get to learn both hand-building and wheel skill. The third week will be for glazing projects.

Kids Wheels
This class offers kids the opportunity to create their first ever wheel piece! With instruction and guidance through each step of the process from an experienced teacher, each kid will create one wheel thrown piece to be glazed and fired in the kiln!

Advance 3-day class
Following completion of Level 2, this course offers further instruction and guidance on creating more specific shapes and wares - potentially in a set, as well as exploring more additive and reductive techniques. You will also learn the use of dip glazing.

6 Week Wheel/Clay Class
No experience necessary. This class focuses on creating projects from multiple pieces, throwing larger pieces, creating sculptural projects, and refining your skills and interests as an artist/ceramicist. This is a very student lead course - so plan to explore your own interest(s)!

Sensory
Sensory Classes are for infant to toddler aged kids to experience the joys of playing with clay. With opportunities to mold the clay, create swirls on the wheel, and splash with the water and slip - this can be a fun new creative experience for your little one!
HAND BUILDING

Open Hand Build
Open Hand Building is an opportunity for those with hand building experience to creates any piece(s) they would like! Customers must be familiar with clay regulations and techniques including: score and slip, proper clay thickness, and tool use/safety.

Solid Build
This class meets once a week over a 5-week span to allow instruction on beginner to intermediate wheel throwing methods. This course is equivalent to levels 1-3, but provides a more cohesive flow for those ready to dive right in!

Pinch Pot
Pinch pot classes are those in which the pinch pot method is used to create the base of the projects. Starting with a ball of clay, a half sphere shape is formed by creating a hole and pinching the walls. Some of these classes include yarn bowls, monsters, kitchen utensils, and many more!

Coils
This course is designed for people who have completed the beginner 5-week class OR levels 1-3. Over 5 weeks, you will continue working larger on the wheel, focus on refinement of skills, and learn techniques for creating a set/multiples of pieces.

Slabs
Slab building is done by rolling a flat slab of clay and creating a base and/or walls to make a full structure. This techinque is used most often in our classes for luminaries, fairy houses houses, altars, and ornaments.

Seasonal
Many of our classes offered at Mud on Main are seasonal projects, meaning they are not available year round. These can include, but are not limited to: coil trees at Christmas, gnomes in the Spring, and fairy houses in the Spring/Summer.
